WOMEN'S HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICES
ANTE & POST NATAL CLINICAL PILATES
Changing posture, hormones, a growing baby, and joint laxity can make pregnancy a marathon. Learn to control your body, prevent injury, and build strength from the inside out. There is a growing body of evidence from world obstetric health organisations and guidelines, to support exercise and pilates during pregnancy.
Gain relief of any musculoskeletal pain, improve function, and move with ease during and post your pregnancy. Manual therapy includes specific soft tissue, and joint mobilisation techniques to help relieve pain and improve alignment.
ACUPUNCTURE & DRY NEEDLING
This is an excellent tool I use to help women for pain relief, balancing energy and relieving long standing trigger points affecting movement dysfunction.
MOVEMENT RESTORATION WITH FUNCTIONAL EXERCISE
Whether you want to return to sport, walk or lift your baby pain free, individualised guided rehabilitation and exercise will help you get there! I have vast experience in rehabilitation as a musculoskeletal physio, and exercise prescription for injury, pain and dysfunction.
PELVIC FLOOR REHABILITATION
1 in 3 women will have incontinence post natal. 1 in 4 of those will also have pelvic organ prolapse. It is not normal to have to live with urinary or faecal incontinence. Physiotherapy is the first line treatment for incontinence in worldwide health guidelines, and with patience, appropriate guidance and treatment, can often significantly improve symptoms.
OVERACTIVE PELVIC FLOOR & PELVIC PAIN
There is a growing statistic of women that have reduced ability to be able to relax their pelvic floor muscles, which can result in bladder and bowel emptying issues and pain. This can lead to a 'chronic pelvic pain presentation' where pain continues to go untreated. Furthermore women can then have symptoms of pain during sexual intercourse. I have years of experience working with patients, gynaecologists, and sexual therapists.
MY JOURNEY INTO WOMEN'S HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPY
Working with women is something that I am very passionate about.
My journey as a Women's Health Physiotherapist began in London where I spent nearly 6 years working at Six Physio, and part time in my final year at UCLH and Chelsea and Westminster hospitals in the women’s health team. I continued to gain qualifications in rehabilitation, pilates, acupuncture/dry needling with the AACP and women's health (urogynaecological and obstetric management) with the POGP (Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy) association. In London, I began my specialty in pregnancy related issues, pelvic and sexual pain, post-partum recovery, rectus abdominis diastasis rehabilitation, pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence, prolapse, and overactive bladder.
Following my time in the UK, I spent 5 years in Dubai at Up and Running Integrated Medical Centre, a multidisciplinary private clinic in Dubai. My roles included Senior Women’s Health, Musculoskeletal and Clinical Pilates Physiotherapist; Team Manager for Women's Health and Clinical Pilates Services; and Corporate Wellness Service Lead.
I have also found interest in learning Osteopathic techniques, mainly for women's & pelvic health, since working in London and the Middle East through mentoring, workshops, courses abroad, and also courses with the Molinari Institute in London and Greece.
I am now back working in New Zealand again at Auckland Physiotherapy in Newmarket, and also from my home clinic on the North Shore, and in the community.
If you would like to know more about any of my services, please feel free to contact me. A free 15 minute phone consultation is also an option.
